I'm writing this coming back from McDaniel College for a soccer training session. I'm studying now and I feel iffy for the test tomorrow hopefully it will be good.

Day 7 without Schick:

Assignment: In your blog, discuss this topic: The United States is declining, like the Roman Empire did. You may agree or disagree, but give solid reasons.

My response: Before we compare, I'll go over what page 177 says about the 3 ways the Roman Empire fell. Edward Gibson says: The empire was just simply too large and the need of conquest destroyed Rome. Arther Ferrill says: The collapse of Military strength and power lead to the fall of the Government. And Finley Hooper says: The empire really didn't fall, it just split and adapted into the new Medieval time period.
Honestly after that, I think the feared reasons the USA may begin to decline aren't anything like the Roman Empire. First the United States is not hungry for conquest, and we haven't added a state to our nation since Hawaii in 1958. Second we aren't are falling in Military power, the president is doing the exact opposite. In fact in September 2018, President Trump signed a bill to increase the Military budget up to $716 Billion; putting us easily as the strongest military in the world. Yes, i do believe that there are ways that could show US declining and honestly, I think it comes down to the people in the Government. Current President Donald Trump i wouldn't go as far to call a Bigot, but his lack of filter could get us as a nation in trouble. And as much as i hate to say it, the Democrats running against him are just as bad and some are 100% worse. Candidates like Senator Bernie Sanders and his socialist views could easily collapse our economy in a blink of an eye. I mean just look at Venezuela, there has never been a successful Socialist run government: from the USSR, to modern day Vietnam and you could argue China, however there strict laws kind of make it work and it just goes against everything our country stands for. So no, I don't think the two massively successful nations have anything to do with each other.

Day 6 Without Schick:

1.

Inflation- a drastic drop in the value of money coupled with a raise in prices.

Mercenary- foreign soldiers who fought for money, felt little sense of loyalty to the empire.

Constantinople- The city of Constantine, the new name for the capital.

Attila- a powerful chieftain who terrorized both halves of the empire.

3.
The main internal causes of the fall of the Roman Empire were inflation, serious agricultural problems, destroyed farmland due to wars, and the disarray of the military by the lack of discipline and loyalty.

4.
Diocletian succeeded by ruling with an iron fist and fixing the previous problems Rome suffered. He split the entire empire in half and ruled the Eastern part, and he doubled the size of the Roman army.

5.
The Germans invaded the Roman Empire because the Huns were invading their land and destroying everything so they had to flee.

Day 4 without Mr. Schick

The rap and the textbook are both teaching us about the same concept, Rome. But they do it in very different ways and you will learn the information wether you study the rap or the textbook. The textbook teaches it to us in a very direct and robotic way and there are some pictures to go along with it. The textbook also has all the information organized into different sections and we know where to look when we want to find idea or topic. But the rap on the other hand is very scattered with facts but if we listen to it enough it can get embedded into our heads and we can remember it very well. But to be honest i don't think i can sit the rap that many times to remember it. So, I feel like I'll have better success If i  read straight from the textbook because its easier for me to understand

Day 1 without Mr. Shick

Rome began as a republic, a government in which elected officials represent the people. Eventually, absolute rulers called emperors seized power and expanded the empire.

At its height, the Roman Empire touched three
continents—Europe, Asia, and Africa. For several centuries, Rome brought
peace and prosperity to its empire before its eventual collapse.

Out of Judea rose a monotheistic,
or single-god, religion known as Christianity. Based on the teachings of
Jesus of Nazareth, it soon spread throughout Rome and beyond.

509 BC- Rome becomes a republic
264 BC- First Punic War begins
218 BC- In the second Punic War Hannibal invades Italy
31 BC- Octavia defeats the forces of Antony and Cleopatra
284 AD- Diocletian becomes emperor
476 AD- Western Roman Empire falls

Wednesday, April 10, 2019

April 10th, 2019

Today we reviewed some more, we were handed a paper that had moments in history done by a certain king and we had to match it up to who was who. We also had a really weird discussion about Oedious Rex which still kinda shakes me to my core but besides that it was good

Tuesday, April 9, 2019

Monday, March 11, 2019

March 11th, 2019

Today in Class we went on with the powerpoint after we didn't do it on Friday because we were being disrespectful. Today was kinda long and i don't remember what we really did. However, i know we did go over the Homeric Question if he was really real or not. I don't think I would enjoy reading the books he suppose wrote because they are so long.

Friday, March 8, 2019

Wednesday, February 27, 2019

February 22, 2019

Today in class we did a worksheet on the important vocab for the next test we will be having on Monday. I hope it was like the Mesopotamia test because I did well on that. I'm kinda getting bored though because we don't really do anything exciting or have conversations about what we are learning, it's just notes.

Friday, February 15, 2019

February 15th, 2019

I don't know what we did in class, like Mr. Schick got a lazer pointer but thats all i know to be honest it was kinda boring. I already know everything so I just wanna take the test or learn something new, but I did get to listen to music but I do that 24/7

Thursday, February 14, 2019

February 14th, 2019

Today was same old, we just review stuff we already knew again and then we were to read Hummarbi's Code. Some of the laws are kinda funny and insane at the same time. I wanna get through this unit because it really doesn't interest me that much to be honest. We will see him again tomorrow so fingers crossed i guess

Wednesday, February 13, 2019

February 13th, 2019

To be honest, I think we just reviewed again today like last class, so it was actually really boring cause i already know all this stuff from the text book. But i did get a 98 on my test so thats good. I really wanna learn about ancient Egypt and ancient Greece since i have played enough Assassins Creed to understand a good basis of it

Friday, February 8, 2019

February 8th, 2019

Today in Class we continued to take notes from the Chapter. I learned about the formation of the first empire from the conquer Sagon of Akkad and the rise and fall of his empire.
After reading about the God's of these early civilization years, I always think will that be what people think of us in 2000 years? Is it just endless cycle of God(s) that each civilization believed in? I know as a devoted Catholic, I know I shouldn't think like that but its just a interested thought

Thursday, February 7, 2019

February 7th, 2019

Today in class we took notes in the textbook. It was kinda boring but at least I have something I can study from. We went over Mesopotamia and the Samaritan people who inhabited it, the Tigris and Euphrates rivers caused much damage to the land and the Samar's where often susceptible to flooding and damage. The Greek people would often adapt the Government style of the early Mesopotamian City States

Tuesday, February 5, 2019

February 5th, 2019

Today in Class we took our first test of Western Civilization, I think I did pretty good. For the rest of class all I had to do was write this blog. I think I did well on my other test in English today for Vocab. I really really really hope we don't have to watch another video for Chapter two and we can just learn like in Human Geo. I don't know what else to say for this blog sooooo

Monday, February 4, 2019

February 4th, 2019

Today was very long but I laughed a lot which is good. I got a 98 on my Math Test which I'm really proud of and I made First Honors. I have two tests tomorrow, a Vocabulary Test in English & the test in Western Civilization. After playing Assassins Creed, I'm very interested into seeing the Roman Empire and it's beautiful architecture, I know its a small detail to most but to me the Athenian & Roman architecture is absolutely breath taking to me. I'm going to make a quizlet tonight to review for the test and hopefully I can get my grade up.

Monday, January 28, 2019

January 28th, 2019

Today was long, like long to the point in every class i wanted to hit my head on the wall like 100 times. Class started with the destruction of a Mac Charger which was really funny and then we had a discussion just like the Human Geo classes. However, I didn't sleep at all and Mr. Schick had all the lights off and the blinds barely open so I was so close to falling asleep but I held myself together and got through it. Hope we are done watching the Guns, Germs & Steel video cause I already watched it and don't feel like watching it again.

Thursday, January 24, 2019

January 24th, 2019

Today in class, we continued to watch the video from the first Western Civilization class, I have already watched it and watching it a second time was kinda boring not gonna lie. I wanna do better in this class then Human Geo cause I feel like I could do better. School was really boring today especially in Grzanna's class, it felt like 5 hours instead of 55 Minutes. We don't have Western Civ tomorrow so we will be back on Monday

Wednesday, January 23, 2019

January 23rd, 2019

Today in class we watched the same video again and it was very long class. We took a pop quiz and i got a 83% which is ok,  I hope soon we can go back to way we learned in Human Geography because that was better. After looking at the Sophomore Courses, I'm going to do Honors Finical Literacy and AP Government because I'm really interested in Government and I think it would be a class I would love to learn and get a better understand of, hopefully the teachers aren't Bias. My day was long and it sucked but J. Cole drops tonight so hopefully that can make up for it

Western Civilization Introduction Video

In the video Jared Diamond is a specialist in Human Physiology and is embarking on an adventure to learn how Guns, Germs and Steel were used in advantage for civilizations of the future to become so much more powerful then others.
Diamond has started in the Rainforest and brought up a very interesting idea for discussion, New Guineans are among the most culturally diverse and adaptable people in the world: so why are the so poor compared to modern Americans?
This question requires us to go back to the beginning of time, how did great super powers of civilization like the Mayas, Greeks, Romans & Egyptians advance so much and other civilizations were lost to history?
To find this answer, Diamond set back the clock to 1300 years ago, when everyone was equal and all lived in small hunter gather groups. However after an archeologist find of one of the first villages in history they realized that these people were beginning to settle and live together and in this village there was a room: inside this room its believed to have had a way that these people kept grains and other types of food concealed from germs, insect & moister.
Diamonds answer: the crops & animals. He believes that origin to success starts in the Fertile Crescent and the spreading of crops and animals on the x/y axis of the land, spread to places like Egypt and Greece, and boosted the economies and civilizations

May 16th, 2019

Today we got our tests back and i got a 92 so i'm really happy. I need to remember more about the Roman King's after Caesar Augustus...
